Ready for your next pond fairy adventure? This crochet lily pad bag is just the enchanting accessory you need!



Materials and Tools
5.5mm crochet hook
Yarn Needle
Worsted Weight Yarn, Cotten is Recommended
Colors: Blue for the body, green for the lily pad, and at least one additional color for the flower (I used white and pink)
Galvanized wire rope, 1/16″ wide (you can find this at home depot!)
Optional: 12mm Pearl Beads
Optional: Detachable bag strap (I use one from a bag I already own and swap it between bags as needed)
Crochet Stitches and Abbreviations
Note: These are US crochet terms
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
BLO – back loop only
inc – increase (2 new stitches in one)
BO – bind off
Pattern Notes
Body
Make 2 of these pieces
In your blue/ body color
Row 1: 10 dc into magic circle, sl st to join and ch2,
Row 2: *(2dc) into next st* repeat between * 10 times, sl st to join and ch2,
Row 3: *1 dc, (2dc) into next st* repeat between * 10 times, sl st to join and ch2
Row 4: *2 dc, (2dc) into next st* repeat between * 10 times, sl st to join and ch2
Row 5: *3 dc*, (2dc) into next st repeat between * 10 times, sl st to join and ch2
Row 6: *4 dc, (2dc) into next st* repeat between * 10 times, sl st to join and ch2
Row 7: *5 dc, (2dc) into next st* repeat between * 10 times, sl st to join and ch2

Lily Pad
Row 1: 10 dc into magic circle, sl st to join and ch2,
Row 2: *(2dc) into next st* repeat between * 10 times, sl st to join and ch2,
Row 3: *1 dc, (2dc) into next st* repeat between * 10 times, sl st to join and ch2
Row 4: *2 dc, (2dc) into next st* repeat between * 10 times, sl st to join and ch2
Row 5: *3 dc*, (2dc) into next st repeat between * 10 times, sl st to join and ch2
Row 6: *4 dc, (2dc) into next st* repeat between * 10 times, sl st to join and ch2
Starting in the next row, stop working in the round. Instead, flip and work back and forth. This will create the split in the lily pad.
Row 7: *5 dc, (2dc) into next st* repeat between * 10 times, ch2 and flip
Row 8 *6 dc, (2dc) into next st* repeat between * 10 times, ch2 and flip
Row 9 *7 dc, (2dc) into next st* repeat between * 10 times, ch2 and flip

Flower Applique
Any flower applique pattern will do!
Note: For the purposes of this pattern, I have recreated the flower with different yarn. Having different colors is optional. For my bag flower, the two smallest of mine are pink and the two largest are white.
Flower 1, 4 Petals
Row 1: 8 sc into a magical circle, sl st
Row 2: In the same space as the sl st, work *[1 hdc, 3 dc, 1 hdc] in the same stitch, sl st in the next stitch * repeat between * 3 times

Flower 2, 6 Petals
Row 1: 12 sc into a magical circle, sl st
Row 2: In the same space as the sl st, work *[1 hdc, 3 dc, 1 hdc] in the same stitch, sl st in the next stitch * repeat between * 5 times

Flower 3, 8 Petals
Row 1: 8 sc into a magical circle, sl st
Row 2: *(2sc) into next st* repeat between * 8 times
Row 3: In the same space as the sl st, work *[1 hdc, 3 dc, 1 hdc] in the same stitch, sl st in the next stitch * repeat between * 7 times

Flower 4, 10 Petals
Row 1: 10 sc into a magical circle, sl st
Row 2: *(2hdc) into next st* repeat between * 10 times
Row 3: In the same space as the sl st, work *[1 hdc, 3 dc, 1 hdc] in the same stitch, sl st in the next stitch * repeat between * 9 times,
BO

Stack the flowers and sew them together through the middle, attaching the optional 12mm pearl bead to sit at the center.

Attach the flower applique to the lily pad
Optional: Attach 12mm pearl beads to the lily pad as desired.
Assembly
Step 1: Attach the lily pad to one side of the bag body
Step 2: Sew the bag body pieces together using the mattress stitch. Leave a large enough opening at the top to get into your bag
Step 3: At the opening corners, add a small chain stitch loop to attach your bag strap clips to.
